VISIONS Program Recruiting Next Class
WINTERVILLE—Pitt Community College’s VISIONS Career Development and Scholarship Program is putting together its next class and is seeking applications from juniors at each of Pitt County’s public high schools.
Since it was established in 2004, VISIONS has helped more than 1,300 Pitt County high school students receive the direction and support they needed to earn diplomas and move into higher education and/or the workplace. Each year, the program offers participants academic support, one-on-one mentoring, and career exploration opportunities.
“VISIONS has been very successful at helping students discover more about themselves and meet their full potential,” said PCC VISIONS Director Rebecca Warren. “It’s exciting to see them graduate from high school, pursue a PCC education, and become successful members of the workforce.”
PCC VISIONS Coordinator Trent Spencer says the application to participate in VISIONS is available for download on the PCC Foundation website (www.pittccfoundation.com). Applicants must submit completed forms on or before Nov. 6 to career development coordinators at their respective high schools, along with letters of support from two of their teachers.
To be considered for VISIONS participation, Spencer says applicants must be high school juniors pursuing a diploma in a standard course of study with a GPA between 2.0 and 3.2 and no disciplinary issues. He said they must also be eligible for in-state tuition, have a demonstrated financial need, and plan to attend PCC.
In addition to receiving support services from VISIONS staff while they are still in high school, students selected for VISIONS participation will receive a $1,000-scholarship ($500 per semester) to attend PCC after earning a high school diploma. VISIONS Coordinators will serve as first-year advisors for students to help them make a seamless transition to PCC. The scholarship can be renewed for a second year, as long as the student has participated in VISIONS activities and is in good academic standing.
Students can receive additional details on the VISIONS program from their respective career development coordinators or by contacting the VISIONS Program at 252-493-7719.
