WINTERVILLE—Nearly 500 members of Pitt Community College’s Class of 2024 will participate in spring commencement Tuesday evening at East Carolina University’s Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with Hank Dunbar, manager of First Citizens Bank’s Charitable and Philanthropic Group, serving as graduation speaker. Prior to joining First Citizens in 2014, Dunbar, who earned a bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor from Campbell University, spent 15 years developing and leading charitable and philanthropic organizations.

“Hank will have plenty of advice and wisdom to share with our graduating class from his career helping charitable institutions fulfill their fiduciary duties to donors and beneficiaries of their services,” PCC Vice President of Institutional Advancement Marianne Cox said. “He is passionate about his work and takes a comprehensive, holistic approach to charitable asset development and management, giving him the ability to see solutions and opportunities where others only see problems and barriers.”

For Dr. Lawrence Rouse, this month’s graduation will be his last as Pitt’s president. In January, he informed the PCC Board of Trustees that he would be officially retiring on June 30, after spending the past six years with Pitt, to devote more time to his wife, Janie, three children and granddaughter.

“Though I am looking forward to my retirement and the opportunities it presents for spending time with loved ones and leisurely activities, I know I will miss participating in events like graduation,” Rouse said. “After 42 years in higher education, I know how important commencement is to the graduates and their families and friends, as well as the sense of pride PCC instructors and staff feel, knowing they played a role in helping others achieve an important milestone and enter the workforce fully prepared.”

Collectively, PCC’s 643 spring graduates have earned 1,079 degrees, diplomas and/or certificates.
