PCC Inviting Community to Campus for Health Fair

WINTERVILLE—The Pitt Community College Health Sciences Division will showcase its students and programs to the campus and community this month through a health fair aimed at promoting healthier living.
Scheduled to take place April 11, the 3rd Annual PCC Health Fair will feature information booths, displays and basic health screenings. It will be held in the Craig F. Goess Student Center’s Davenport Multipurpose Room, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no cost to attend.
“The health fair provides our health sciences students and community partners an opportunity to promote a variety of important health care topics,” said PCC Health Sciences Dean Donna Neal. “Feedback was positive from both of our previous fairs, and participation at those events exceeded our expectations.
“As a result, we decided to move this year’s fair to the student center to make it easier for participants to see all of the activities we have to offer and find the areas they want to explore further.”
Neal said PCC health sciences students will facilitate many of the activities that take place during the fair, with support from faculty. A number of community partners will also participate, including the Bloodmobile, she said.
In addition to general health tips and blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose checks, Neal says the fair will include chair massages and pulse oximetry screenings. There will also be information on sleep apnea, a “Booze It and Lose It” simulation, and a Pitt County Sheriff’s Department medicine drop for attendees wishing to properly dispose of their old prescription medications, she said.
Parking for the fair is free and adjacent to the Goess Student Center.
