PCC Foundation to Accept 2019-20 Scholarship Applications Feb. 1-April 1

WINTERVILLE—The Pitt Community College Foundation is encouraging current high school seniors, returning PCC students and new students planning to enroll at Pitt this fall to apply for scholarships, starting next month.
Susan Nobles, PCC Vice President of Institutional Advancement, announced Wednesday that the foundation will accept scholarship applications for the 2019-20 academic year from Feb. 1 to April 1. The application, she said, is available at https://pittcc.academicworks.com/users/sign_in, along with a wealth of information on each scholarship offered.
“The PCC Foundation has been utilizing an online application system for several years now, and it’s improved the efficiency of the selection process,” Nobles said. “Some of our scholarships have very specific guidelines regarding eligibility. Based on the information students submit, the software automatically matches their applications with scholarships for which they are eligible.”
Before newcomers can apply for PCC Foundation scholarships, Nobles said they must complete and submit a PCC admissions application. She explained that the acceptance letters they receive from the college include important log-in credentials needed to access and complete the online scholarship application form.
Nobles, who also serves as the PCC Foundation’s executive director, also pointed out that all scholarship applicants are urged to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, since it is a requirement for many of the awards the PCC Foundation offers.
Once the application deadline has passed, Nobles said the PCC Foundation Scholarship Committee would work with Institutional Advancement staff at the college to administer and award most of the available scholarships using the online system. However, she said government-funded awards and several specific scholarships, such as the N.C. Education Lottery Scholarship and Golden LEAF Scholarship, will continue to be awarded by PCC’s financial aid department.
During the 2017-18 academic year, the PCC Foundation awarded nearly $300,000 in scholarships in recognition of academic achievement and to provide financial assistance to students in need for tuition and fees. Financial support for the awards is generated through a variety of fundraising events and philanthropic donors wanting to invest in the educational opportunities of local students.
