PCC Foundation Says 2018 Holiday Show a Success

WINTERVILLE—With the final numbers tallied, the Pitt Community College Foundation is reporting another successful Down East Holiday Show fundraiser.

This year’s event—the organization’s 17th—took place Nov. 1-4. PCC Vice President of Institutional Advancement Susan Nobles says the four-day show drew 11,000 shoppers to the Greenville Convention Center and raised nearly $133,000 for student scholarships and educational activities at Pitt.

“The Down East Holiday Show has become a great holiday tradition for Pitt County, and we sincerely appreciate everyone who supported this year’s event,” Nobles said.

“Shoppers and vendors from throughout North Carolina and from other states have told us our event has become their favorite annual holiday show,” she continued. “We are very pleased that it has become a great event for them and an outstanding fundraising event for our student scholarship program.”

As the PCC Foundation’s largest fundraiser each year, Nobles said the importance of the Holiday Show’s success cannot be understated. She pointed out that approximately 67 percent of PCC students are receiving some form of financial assistance and added that the foundation has already provided $356,325 in scholarships during the current academic year, with plans to award more during the spring and summer semesters.

“One of the PCC Foundation’s primary goals is to assist the college’s efforts to increase student success through retention and program completion,” Nobles said. “Every Holiday Show sponsorship, every ticket purchased, and every vendor booth sold supports educational opportunities for our students.”

The 2018 edition of the Holiday Show featured 189 vendors, including 34 first-time participants, selling everything from holiday decorations, accessories and home décor to wine and food items, clothing and a variety of services.

Since the first Holiday Show was held in 2002, the event has generated more than $1.2 million to benefit Pitt students.
