PCC Achieves ‘Premier Blood Partner Status’

WINTERVILLE—For its support of the community and national blood supply, the American Red Cross has recognized Pitt Community College as one of its Premier Blood Partners for 2018.

Last year, the college helped the humanitarian organization collect 170 blood donations as part of a deep-rooted commitment to helping save lives in the community and wherever patients depend on the generosity of blood donors to battle illness and injury.

“Pitt Community College is proud to play a role in helping the Red Cross achieve its mission of ensuring lifesaving blood is available for hospital patients in need,” said Katelynn J. Speas, PCC coordinator for Student Activities and Recruitment. “Like the Red Cross, our students and employees see the humanitarian value in helping our neighbors through blood donations, and we are grateful for the opportunity to host drives that will have a positive impact on our community.”

Just this month, Speas said the college hosted a blood drive on campus that surpassed its collection goal.

“Students in PCC’s chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success did an amazing job running their first blood drive,” she said. “They ended up collecting 46 units, which was 11 units more than their goal.

“We’re grateful to everyone who promoted the drive and/or gave the gift of life during the event. The blood donations collected at PCC this month will make an enormous difference in the lives of 138 patients in Pitt County battling illness or injury.”
