WINTERVILLE—The Pitt Community College English Language Acquisition (ELA) program will showcase its students and their cultures during ELA International Day this month.

The annual event will take place in the Craig F. Goess Student Center’s Davenport Multipurpose Room April 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. It is free and open to campus and members of the community.

In preparation for International Day, ELA students create displays featuring their home countries and prepare to discuss them with those who come out to the program. PCC ELA Instructor/Coordinator Janice Fisher says the event offers her students a valuable opportunity to practice their English-speaking skills.

In addition to displays, Fisher says some students will wear traditional clothing from their home countries while others will perform cultural demonstrations.

More than 20 countries will be represented during this year’s International Day program, including Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Morocco, China, Japan and Vietnam.
