Continuing Education Scholarships

Pitt Community College is committed to helping students overcome financial barriers to education. Scholarships are available for students enrolling in short-term workforce development classes (96+ hours) that lead to an industry or state-recognized credential.

Through the generosity of the PCC Foundation and other state partners, PCC offers a variety of scholarships to make training more affordable. Please ask our staff about scholarship opportunities when you call to register!

Anthony “Tony” Bowen Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Timothy Sawyer in December 2019 to honor the memory of Tony Bowen who was an instructor in BLET for many years and who passed away after a battle with cancer.

Amount: $500

Eligibility Requirements

Financial need is considered. Preference to residents of Beaufort, Bertie, or Martin Counties, but this is not required.

City of Greenville Workforce Initiative Grant

The City of Greenville Workforce Development Initiative Grant, in partnership with Pitt Community College, is designed to strengthen the local workforce by providing residents with access to high-quality training and career development opportunities. This initiative focuses on equipping individuals with the skills needed to succeed in high-demand industries, fostering economic growth, and supporting local employers in meeting their workforce needs.

Through this grant, eligible participants may receive tuition assistance for approved workforce training programs, as well as career readiness support such as résumé development, interview preparation, and National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) testing and certification.

Free GED Class Scholarship

The Free GED Class Scholarship, funded by the PCC Foundation, provides eligible students with one free Continuing Education or curriculum course after successfully completing a Transitional Studies program.

Maximum Award: Up to $350 (covers registration and fees)

NOTE: Must be used within one year of completing the Transitional Studies program (spring, summer and fall semesters are eligible).

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must successfully complete a Transitional Studies program (Adult High School, High School Equivalency, English Language Acquisition or Career Academy)

How to Apply

To apply, students should email the Chief High School Equivalency Examiner in Transitional Studies at mthopkins399@my.pittcc.edu.

The Chief High School Equivalency Examiner will verify program completion and submit the student’s name, verification documentation, and requested course information to the Continuing Education Registration & Records Director. The Continuing Education Registration & Records Director will submit the request and course cost to the Scholarship Coordinator for approval. Once approved, the Continuing Education Registration & Records Director will contact the student and assist them with registration.

Golden LEAF Scholarship

Maximum Award: $1,850

Jennifer Knight Scholarship

Established in 2001 by the parents of Jennifer Knight who was a High School Equivalency graduate. She lost her life in 2001 in an automobile accident. While alive, Jennifer often visited her Transitional Studies classes to motivate and inspire others to finish their education and pursue their goals. 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a 2025-2026 graduate of the Transitional Studies Program
  • Must be enrolled or planning to enroll at Pitt Community College (the scholarship only applied to PCC classes)
  • Demonstrate good character in order to properly represent the positivity and perseverance of Jennifer Knight
  • Complete the essay

Kenneth Thompson Criminal Justice & Law Enforcement Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the estate of Kenneth Thompson to provide financial support for students in law enforcement and/or criminal justice programs at Pitt Community College.

Amount: $500-$1,600

Eligibility Requirements

Student enrolled in the BLET Program with a financial need.

Sherry Aubry Harrell Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Mr. Joe (Mac) Harrell in honor of his wife, Sherry, in November 2019.

Amount: $500

Eligibility Requirements

Must demonstrate financial need. Should plan to remain in Pitt County upon completion of the program. Preference to Pitt County residents, but this is not required.

Short-Term Workforce Development

State Employees Credit Union (SECU) Scholarship

  • Maximum Award: $500

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be an NC resident
  • Be part of one of the following target groups: unemployes or underemployed, members of the NC National Guard, military veterans and spouses, or underserved populations in a specific workforce sector or area
  • Not be a director, employee, or family member of an employee of the State Employees’ Credit Union or SECU Foundation
  • Courses must be recognized on state list of credentials at either the Essential or Career level
  • Can be awarded up to (2) scholarships for courses within their credential in the same program year

T.V. Woolard/Pitt Co. Law Enforcement Officer Assoc. Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Pitt County Law Enforcement Officers Association to provide financial support for students in the BLET program at Pitt Community College.

Amount: $2,000

Eligibility Requirements

Student enrolled in the BLET Program who is self-paying for the BLET program. Must be sponsored by a Pitt County Law Enforcement agency.

Targeted Assistance

For high demand/low enrollment programs, vocational rehabilitation students, or students enrolled less than half-time.

VISIONS

For high school juniors or seniors. Continuing education classes are eligible.

Eligibility Requirements

  • 2.0 – 3.2 grade point average
  • Planning to attend Pitt Community College
  • No discipline problems
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Eligible for in-state tuition
  • Pursuing a standard course of study for a high school diploma
