STEM Camps

Calling all future coders, programmers, & designers! Learn the basics of coding languages like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS through a series of web projects and design challenges each day and be on your way to becoming the next tech star! Whether you want to be a Silicon Valley CEO or the high school student who just made $1 million dollars for programming in her bedroom, this camp has the essentials you need to begin your journey. Projects will be available on a Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Campers will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning campers can create more advanced projects!

This camp is perfect for curious young minds who want to take the first steps into the world of programming! Use your creativity to solve a series of web-based coding challenges. Each lesson builds fluency in essential digital skills needed for the future. At the end of the camp, you will receive access to the interactive learning platform to continue your coding journey at home. Campers will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Use your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Introductory coding will also be taught through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. Student projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Campers must own a Java version of Minecraft to access their projects at home. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning campers can create more advanced projects!

Make your LEGOs come to life! Bring in your favorite action figures or LEGOs and create a short film with your friends. Whether you want to re-create a scene from Star Wars or design a world of your own, this camp brings your dreams to the screen! Campers will need to bring in LEGOs and/or action figures from home, but all other equipment is provided. Films will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family. Campers will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning campers can create more advanced projects!

Discover how to code in the Lua language while playing and designing worlds in ROBLOX, an online universe where you can create anything you dream of. We combine game design concepts and coding with fun! Young entrepreneurs will learn how to navigate Roblox’s fast growing marketplace to publish their games. Games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Campers will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Whether you want to be the next pro-gamer, streamer, or gamecaster, this camp will teach you the basics to get started! No longer just a hobby, eSports is the fastest growing career for the next generation. Over 400 million people watched YouTube videos and Twitch streams of video game competitions this year alone! Learn competitive game-play skills in Black Rocket’s new eSports App, how to produce commentary for live tournaments, use professional streaming software, and most importantly, practice online safety. Campers will gain full access to the eSports App and a video of their class tournament with commentary. Videos will not be broadcast publicly but will be shared with all campers.

Are you ready to take your game design skills to another level? With Unity, an industry-grade design software, aspiring game designers will learn level editing, 3D modeling, impactful gameplay creation, as well as how to utilize scripts and variables. Games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Campers will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning campers can create more advanced projects!

Campers will be introduced to Tinkercad (an online 3D software that can be used at home), 3D printers, PCC’s Machining and Pneumatics Lab, and the Virtual Welding Lab. We hope to spark interest in young minds to consider careers one day in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Systems, or Computer Integrated Machining.

Join us as we explore the exciting world of electronics and robotics! This camp will teach you a variety of skills such as soldering and coding. Campers will even visit the Electronics and Engineering department on campus to see what goes on each day!

Campers will be introduced to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) based careers here on PCC’s campus through hands-on activities in our CIT division. We plan to introduce campers to approximately 2 different programs a day, possibly more with time permitting. Each activity will be used to show campers the importance of STEAM and how it is constantly used in the everyday workplace.

Learn all about Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 robots and software. Campers will work with a partner to create a robot that can complete simple tasks. You will learn how to use multiple sensors and a drag and drop coding technique for programming your robot.

The Computer Technologies Department at Pitt Community College will host a week-long Air Force Association (AFA) CyberCamp. Designed for a range of technical skill levels, campers will learn cyber defense skills through hands-on instruction and activities. The AFA CyberCamp will culminate in a final team competition that simulates real cybersecurity situations faced by industry professionals.

MUSIC Camps

Come add your own beats and melodies to this vibrant social time together. Make music through voice, percussion, and dance, and engage in social experiences with your peers and with professional music therapists. Music Therapy Rocks is a facilitated program for individuals of all abilities, including individuals on the autism spectrum, with learning differences, or with developmental or physical disabilities. Enjoy a social, summer camp environment while using activities to achieve social, cognitive, motor and communication goals. No prior music instruction or special ability required. Come and have some music fun this Summer!

Want to try a variety of musical instruments? Campers will have the chance to explore and practice with musical instruments such as woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion, guitar, piano, voice and recorders at the Music Academy of Eastern Carolina. This is a great hands-on opportunity to see what instrument and medium is right for you!

Do music symbols look like foreign drawings to you? Learn to speak the musical language with your guitar! We will teach you basic skills, correct left and right hand positions; special exercises to accelerate the guitar playing; how to get started with chords; rhythm, patterns, and strums; successful practice techniques; and much more. You will need your own guitar. MAEC has a limited number of guitars available for use on a first come basis.

Explore ways to promote your music and skills through Social Media, building a website, music blogs, collaborating with other musicians, and other promotional materials and skills. Working with professionals from the Music Academy of Eastern Carolina, you will have the opportunity to draft and create your materials! You will need to bring your own laptop. Be sure to bring your creativity and excitement for this experience!

Catch the joy of learning to play ukulele! This camp is designed for those with no prior musical knowledge. Ukulele players are from all walks of life and a ukulele is useful for jamming with friends, leading songs with groups and more! Campers will need their own ukulele. MAEC will be happy to help you acquire a ukulele prior to camp if you contact us at 353-6232 for this assistance. Learn to tune, hold, strum and sing along with your ukulele; all the basics you need to know to get started on a life filled with ukulele bliss. By the end of camp, you should be able to play and sing 4 to 5 songs with basic strumming patterns. Come capture the irresistible charm of the ukulele!

SPORTS CAMPS

Learn top notch tricks while supporting your skills and greatly enhancing your abilities. Offered by the riders of ProTown BMX, campers will participate in groups of similar skills and age. Camp will offer safety education, bike maintenance, general skatepark etiquette, and skills/tricks using different ramps. You will need to be able to ride a bike without training wheels. Any bike will do, but prefer a BMX type bike with 2 pegs, rear hand brakes, and a free wheel. Also required are proper-fitting helmets and knee pads. ProTown BMX will have some demo bikes available to use with helmets and knee pads for purchase at discounted prices.

BECOME A CITIZEN SCIENTIST AND OCEAN GUARDIAN! Campers will be introduced to the underwater world through activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving and games, as well as through engaging in themed presentations about ocean conservation topics. Some of the themes include our National Marine Sanctuaries, Marine Biology, Trash Talk, Artificial Reefs, and Maritime archaeology. Dive into STEM is centered around educating youth about their marine environment and the problems it faces, and introducing them to methods through which they can help be part of the solution! Campers should bring a bathing suit and towel. Scuba and snorkeling equipment, snacks, supervision, and fun will be provided. If campers wish to bring their own snorkel gear, they are more than welcome to do so.

This camp is for older campers that are ready for more advanced golfing techniques. Along with etiquette and fundamentals learned from a beginning camp, this will be the next level in what campers need for learning about commitment and working hard on their game.

Join the PCC Cheerleaders in a Cheer Camp! Campers will be in small groups by grade and they will learn motions, jumps, cheers, and a dance, as well as basic stunting. The material learned will be put together in a routine that will be performed for family at the conclusion of Cheer camp. Campers are required to wear shorts (appropriate length/leggings), a t-shirt (no crop tops), socks, and tennis shoes. Any personal items should be labeled with the camper’s name.

ARTS/CREATIVE Camps

Do you have a creative eye and love rearranging your room? This Interior Design camp will be focused on showing campers the techniques of scale and proportions, room layout, design transfer and basic rendering principles. You will be able to measure and design your own rooms, figure out furniture placement, and even give color to your creations!

Come learn the basics of sewing and creature design. Campers will design a monster from scratch, using techniques of professional character designers. You will also learn basic hand sewing techniques to create a stuffed version of your monster.

Campers will learn the basics of how to use a tablet to create digitally painted images. You will learn about brush types, layers, and various techniques to take a drawing from start to finish. A tablet and stylus are required for this camp. Software will be added to your tablet on the first day of camp.
