EMS Training Registration Information
All class times and locations are posted in the EMS Training Calendar.
Registration Requirements
- Students Under 18 Years of Age/High School Students: Must complete a High School Data Form for each class they take and submit it to the instructor. Students under the age of 16 cannot receive certification credit for any class deemed hazardous under Child Labor Laws and North Carolina Occupational Health and Safety standards.
- First-Time PCC Students: Must complete a Student Data Form (PDF). Email completed form to continuingeducation@my.pittcc.edu.
All students must complete a Continuing Education Registration Form (PDF) when registering for a class. Email completed PDF form to continuingeducation@my.pittcc.edu.
Registration packets may be picked up at Greenville Annex Room room 101K, located at 550 Dexter Street. All documentation is required for registration.
CASAS Testing
Students who have not showed successful completion (with a grade of “C” or higher) in college-level Math AND college-level English, will need to take the CASAS placement test.
Prospective students needing to take the CASAS placement test for entry into the EMS Program, must have a student ID number before being allowed to sit for the test. Additionally, prospective students are only granted 3 attempts at the CASAS placement test to score the required level for entry.
After the first two unsuccessful attempts, students should reach out to Transitional Studies (Adult Basic Education) to enroll in IXL, which is a free, online platform, that has a comprehensive CASAS test prep section. Or if prospective students prefer in-person help, they can sign up for one of our Adult Basic Education classes at PCC. These are offered during both day and evening and are free of charge. Prospective students should complete approximately 40 contact hours of remediation training before scheduling to retest again to ensure they are adequately prepared.

- If you are fee waived, we need a letter of affiliation from the agency you are currently affiliated with
- Provide a transcript showing successful completion (with a grade of “C” or higher) in college-level Math (for AEMT and Paramedic) AND college-level English (for EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic). If you HAVE NOT taken these courses, you are required to take the CASAS placement test. Emergency Medical Technician
EMT Course Description & Cost
The Emergency Medical Technician Certification is a qualified pre-hospital program consisting of didactic course work. The following competencies include but are not limited to the recognition, assessment, and management of medical emergencies. The EMT-Basic performs skills such as CPR, artificial ventilations, oxygen administration, basic airway management, AED defibrillation, spinal immobilization, vital signs, and hemorrhage control. Successful completion of the course will allow the student the opportunity to sit for the North Carolina Office of EMS and National Registry certification exams. 288 hours total. This is a hybrid course and online content is required.

EMT Pre-Requirements
- 17 years of age on or before the official end date of the course
- Possession of a high school diploma, high school equivalency or successful completion of an exam assessing basic reading comprehension skills at a minimum at the eleventh-grade level

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician
Adv. EMT Course Description & Cost
Certification is a mid-level EMS provider of pre-hospital emergency medical services. The scope of practice consists of all EMT level skills, advanced airway management and the insertion of supraglottic airways or endotracheal tubes, usage of a CPAP device, initiation of peripheral intravenous therapy and several pharmacological interventions beyond the EMT level. Successful completion of the course will allow the student the opportunity to sit for the North Carolina Office of EMS and National Registry certification exams. 296 hours. This is a hybrid course and online content is required.

Paramedic
Paramedic Course Description & Cost
The Paramedic Certification is an EMS provider of pre-hospital emergency medical services. The scope of practice consists of all EMT and AEMT level skills, emergency cricothyrotomy, chest needle decompression, intraosseous IO, manual defibrillation, cardioversion, pacing, initiation of peripheral intravenous therapy and several pharmacological interventions beyond the AEMT level. Successful completion of the course will allow the student the opportunity to sit for the North Carolina Office of EMS and National Registry certification exams. 1200 hours. This is a hybrid course and online content is required.

Paramedic Pre-Requirements

- When the course meets all other requirements of these guidelines, to include meeting SACSCOC standards for instructors of curriculum-level courses.
- BIO- 163: Basic Anatomy and Physiology
- BIO- 165 & 166: Anatomy and Physiology I & II (Must complete both sections)
- Equivalent CE courses will be accepted, when the course meets all other requirements of these guidelines, to include meeting SACSCOC standards for instructors of curriculum-level courses.
- BIO- 168 & 169: Anatomy and Physiology I & II (Must complete both sections)
