Career Services Launches Online Jobs and Career Resources Platform

PCC administrators and students joined the PCC mascot, Bruiser, to unveil Bruiser's Briefcase, a new online jobs and career resources platform.

WINTERVILLE—As part of fall semester’s “Week of Welcome” festivities, Pitt Community College Career Services held a party—complete with balloons, glow sticks, strobe lights and music—to launch its new online jobs and career resources platform, Bruiser’s Briefcase.

The event, which was sponsored by SPC Mechanical, the PCC Center for Student Activities and PCC Career Services, took place Wednesday in the Craig F. Goess Student Center, where the Career Services Suite is located. More than 100 students came out for the two-hour program, along with several PCC administrators.

“We wanted to host a fun event, not only for students to learn about the new interactive platform, but also for them to see the fun side of Career Services in an informal setting,” said PCC Career Services Outreach Specialist Rachel Bridgers.

According to Bridgers, Bruiser’s Briefcase allows students to view and apply for full- and part-time jobs and internships, schedule appointments with Career Services staff, and sign up for on-campus Career Services events. The new and intuitive career management platform can be accessed from any computer or smart phone, she said, adding that students can use the app to search for and follow specific employers to stay aware of employment opportunities and on-campus visits.

“All students will be able to develop a visual profile to showcase their work history, academic accolades and extracurricular information,” Bridgers said. “These profiles give employers an idea of the skills students have to offer and allows them access to their résumés, as long as students grant their permission.”

Bridgers said Bruisers Briefcase also offers hundreds of career preparation videos and forums in which students can find great career advice.

In addition to learning details about Bruiser’s Briefcase, students who came out to Wednesday’s launch party enjoyed lunch, took photos in front of a PCC backdrop, participated in drawings for prizes, and interacted with the college’s bulldog mascot, Bruiser.
