Frequently Asked Questions

What services are offered by Career Services?

Career Services offers campus workshops and presentations as well as assistance regarding Major/Career Exploration, Career Assessments, Resume and cover letter analysis, practice interviews, and job search strategies.

As a student, when should I visit Career Services and speak with the counseling staff?

Career Services encourages students to visit the office as soon as they can, preferably within the first year. Being familiar with Career Services and taking advantage of the resources provided can prove to be beneficial as you start your search for employment.

What happens in a Career Counseling appointment? Do I need an appointment?

A typical career counseling appointment usually lasts no more than an hour. During the appointment, Career Services staff will sit down with you to discuss goals for the visit as well as address any career questions or concerns you may have. To schedule an appointment, please call: (252) 493-7784 or email at careerservices@email.pittcc.edu

I thought I knew what I wanted to major in, but I am unsure. Can Career Services help me?……. I am having problems in my major. I want to quit, but I don’t know what I would be good at. Can Career Service help me too?

Yes, we can! It is not uncommon for Career Services to meet with students who do not know what they want to major in or are unsure of what they would like to do. Setting an appointment with a counselor to discuss interests, values, strengths, etc. is the most effective way of determining the next steps. The next steps could include taking an assessment in-office or in the privacy and comfort of your home.

Where can I find a listing of jobs and internships associated with my major?

Career Services uses EmploymeNC, a database of jobs, internships, employers, and career events only accessible by PCC students and alumni. EmploymeNC can help with searching/applying for full and part-time jobs and internships, uploading your resume, and receiving notification of jobs that meet your search criteria.

I know Career Services reviews resumes via email; can I just email my resume to you for review without coming into the office?

Ideally, Career Services would love to sit down with you in person for an initial visit and then have the option to move forward virtually. We understand that students and alumni have to juggle many life roles and may not be able to meet traditionally in person. As technology is changing and evolving, becoming more widely available and acceptable, we are finding new and creative ways of communicating with students. Continue to check our website for updates.
