Building Construction Instructor Earns NCHBA’s Top Award
WINTERVILLE—The North Carolina Home Builders Association named Glenn Morrison its “Distinguished Builder Member of the Year” during the 2026 STARS Awards Gala in Charlotte on Aug. 31.
Morrison is the construction manager of Red Ladder Residential, a longtime Inner Banks Home Builders Association (IBXHBA) member, and an instructor in Pitt Community College’s Building Construction Technology program. The award recognizes builders for making an impact that reaches beyond individual construction projects, honoring their integrity, mentorship of future builders, and active involvement in local and state associations.
“It’s an honor to receive the award and be considered among the people I’ve always looked up to,” Morrison said. “It’s kind of cool to be included in that group, but I do it for the love of the industry and for the students, not the awards.”
Morrison entered the building industry after serving in the military. He founded his own homebuilding company after completing PCC’s Building Construction Technology program and has spent decades building homes.
“Building has always been my passion,” Morrison said. “I find great fulfillment in creating homes where families can grow and celebrate together.”
Morrison’s commitment to the construction field includes service as IBXHBA president, leadership roles with the North Carolina Home Builders Association, and participation in National Association of Home Builders leadership activities. He’s partnered with Habitat for Humanity, led the project to construct IBXHBA’s office building in Greenville, spearheaded an effort to rebuild a local family’s home following Hurricane Floyd, and organized annual carpentry contests for Pitt County high school students.
“When you look through the history of our HBA, you’ll find glimpses of Glenn popping up all over but mostly in our service projects,” IBXHBA Executive Officer Sarah Williams said. “While some members find their place in the boardroom, Glenn thrives on the jobsite.”
For the past 16 years, Morrison has been passing his construction knowledge on to PCC students. A 2026 Faculty Excellence Award recipient, he manages live-build projects on campus that teach students from four different Construction and Industrial Technology programs skills they can take to the workplace.
Maurey Verzier, chair of PCC’s Building Construction Technology Department, said Morrison’s STARS Award is “fitting recognition” of the impact he’s made on the more than 300 students he’s trained at Pitt.
“Glenn has spent years investing in students, equipping them with the skills, knowledge and professionalism needed to succeed in the construction industry,” Verzier said. “His dedication has influenced generations of graduates and strengthened our program in immeasurable ways.”
In 2025, Morrison was able to extend his concern for affordable housing to Pitt’s campus by helping the college establish a partnership with the City of Greenville that gives student-built homes an even greater purpose. The homes are relocated to city-owned property to provide affordable housing for low-income families.
But, as Williams noted, Morrison’s greatest contribution to the construction field has been his unwavering investment in people.
Former students continue to contact him years — and sometimes decades — after leaving PCC simply to thank him. They remember not only the construction skills he taught them, but the professionalism, integrity, work ethic and pride in craftsmanship he instilled in them.
“More than an instructor, (Glenn) has been a mentor, advocate and role model both to students and his colleagues,” Verzier said. “The legacy he has built through his commitment to excellence will continue long after his classroom instruction ends, and we are honored to celebrate his achievements and contributions.”
