Students are placed into classes based on GPA or RISE Placement Test.  The below information determines individual student placement:

  • GPA is used for all U.S. high school graduates.
  • Students who graduated high school 10+ years ago will have the option to take placement test, but GPA will be used unless the student requests this option.
  • Placement test will be used for GED/HISET and International Students.

Placement Tests  (for Curriculum Courses)

For information regarding High School Equivalency (GED®, TASC ™)/Adult High School testing click here.

If you are a new student, you will probably need to take the placement test. The placement test includes sections on math and English. The placement test determines where you will start your coursework at PCC.  We offer a variety of classes to meet the needs of every student who enrolls. It is important that each student begins coursework where they will be most successful. The placement test can help us to determine which class will best meet your needs.

It is important to take this test very seriously and to do your best. Your starting point will affect your graduation date, so take some time to explore the information about the placement test.
