It is always best to be prepared when taking a test. We offer resources to help identify your learning style and how to deal with stress and test anxiety. Check out the links below to access these resources.

PCC Transitions Learning Center

Have you been out of school for a while? Would you like to refresh your skills before taking the college entry placement test?

Our Transitions Learning Center (the TLC) is open Monday through Thursday, 8am-8pm for students needing to brush up on skills, achieve credit for RISE-required courses tuition-free, or prepare for college enrollment.  Some restrictions apply.  Contact Sissy Grubbs, 252-493-7560 for more information.

*Upon entry, you will be assessed to determine your starting skill levels and placement testing needs.

You must be a high school or HSE graduate or be close to HSE completion to participate.

Contact the Placement Testing Office at 252-493-7561 to sign up. The Placement Testing Office is located in the Warren Building, Room 2402.

What’s Your Learning Style?

Knowing your preferred learning style determines how you learn best.  Three learning styles are often identified in students.

  • Auditory
  • Visual
  • Tactile/Kinesthetic

Do You Have Stress or Test Anxiety?

Most of us at some point in our lives have dealt with stress or a stressful event. Preparing for a placement test can often leave us feeling nervous and feeling worried as to what to expect. This helpful information on “Test Anxiety” (provided by the Office of Accessibility) provides helpful tools on how to manage stress. In addition, we have provided a link to a free assessment which will provide valuable feedback and tips to manage stress. If you find yourself in a stressful situation and need assistance, we have resources on campus that can assist you. Contact Counseling Services at 252-493-7245.

Test Preparation Offered at PCC

ACE Lab and Classes (Achieving College Entry)
Free classes and labs are offered by the PCC Transitional Studies Department to help high school graduates prepare for the placement test. Students work with an instructor to refresh skills and information that will help them to do their best on the placement test. Learn more about this valuable service, and for the next available classes.

HSE, High School Equivalency tests (including GED®, TASC Testing Assessing Secondary Completion™) and Adult High School
All HSE and Adult High School classes are offered by the PCC Transitional Studies Department at no charge. Find out more about these programs. (Fees for HSE tests apply)

GED®, GMAT, GRE, LSAT, SAT and ACT Preparation
These test preparation courses are offered through the PCC Continuing Education Department via Ed2Go along with many other courses. Learn more about these sessions. Please Note: While PCC does provide test preparation through Continuing Education, PCC does not offer GMAT, GRE, LSAT, SAT or ACT testing.
