Developmental Education Alignment Project (DEAP)
Pitt Community College uses the EdReady Assessment test to determine whether students are ready for college-level courses. All U.S. high school students will be placed based on their high school GPA. Placement tests will be administered for GED/HiSET and international students.
Students who have previously taken the EdReady test at another community college in North Carolina can request that their scores be sent to the Pitt Community College Placement Testing Office. These scores will be used to determine the appropriate English and/or math courses for placement. Please note that students are allowed a maximum of two attempts at the placement test: one initial attempt and one opportunity for a retest.
If you have any questions about the placement testing process for admissions, please contact our office at 252-493-7561.
Getting Ready for Your DEAP Test
If you are a new student, you may need to take the placement test. The DEAP (Developmental Education Alignment Project) placement test is not a pass-or-fail test. Instead, it is designed to assess your readiness for college-level courses. The results of the placement test will help determine which classes will best meet your needs.
It is the student’s responsibility to read the PCC Testing Appointment Policy and take appropriate steps as needed prior to their testing appointment.
Schedule a Test
Placement testing is only administered by appointment. To schedule an appointment, please contact us at 252-493-7561 or email us at pcctesting@my.pittcc.edu.
You may also visit us at the Edward and Joan Warren Building (EJW), 2nd floor, Room 2402. We will be more than happy to assist you!
Please Note:
- Students who require testing accommodations are required to contact PCC Office of Accessibility Services prior to scheduling a testing appointment (see PCC Testing Appointment Policy).
- Students should schedule their testing appointment ASAP upon receipt of their acceptance letter, since testing appointments are limited.
- Students who wait until summer, which is the testing center’s busy period, to schedule an appointment may find that all testing appointments are already booked.
- Students will NOT be able to register for classes until they complete their placement test.
What to Bring to the Test
Students will need to bring an acceptable form of identification to the test. The following are acceptable forms of ID:
- Pitt Community College ID, or other student identification
- Driver’s License
- Passport
- Other forms of government-issued ID
Students testing for other institutions are required to obtain a Remote Testing Voucher from their home institution (see PCC Testing Appointment Policy).
Please arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment to ensure a timely check-in process. If you need to cancel your appointment, we ask that you give us at least 48 hour notice.

Requesting Your Test Scores
Pitt Community College will be glad to send a copy of your test scores to another college or school if you request it. This needs to be a written request that has your signature on it. We accept faxed and mailed requests or you can stop by to fill out a score request form. You can also download a copy of the request form to fill out. You must follow these guidelines when requesting test scores.
It can take up to 48 hours to process a score request form. Once it is processed, the scores from all of the placement tests and/or HOBET tests that you took at Pitt Community College will be sent to the college or school that you indicated on the request form. If you tested at another college or school, you must contact them to request that they send those scores. PCC can only send test scores that originate with us. (Note: HOBET test is no longer required for Health Sciences admission process as of 10/15/09.)
Test scores are kept on file at Pitt Community College for five years.
