Continuing Education Placement Testing

  • When students arrive for testing they should state what program they are testing for.
  • Test scores are valid for 3 years unless otherwise noted by your intended program.
  • Students that complete continuing education programs may be required to complete additional testing in order to enroll in a curriculum course(s).

Placement Testing offers testing for the following Continuing Education Programs:

Basic Law Enforcement Enforcement Training (BLET)

Students enrolling in the BLET program are required to score in the 10th grade level or higher in reading. The Placement Testing Office offers the NC-DAP English and Reading test for BLET students. The NC-DAP English and Reading test is a computerized exam.

What do I need to score to meet the reading requirement for the BLET program?

BLET students are required take the NC-DAP English and Reading test and place into DRE-098 in order to meet the 10th grade level or higher reading requirement for BLET

When is the exam offered?

BLET testing will be administered by appointment only. To schedule an appointment visit the PCC Online Appointment Scheduler and click Placement Testing – For Curriculum Courses.

What do I need to bring with me on the day of testing?

  • All students are required to show a photo ID in order to test – No Exceptions
  • Your BLET Testing Permit (contact BLET at 252-493-7572 to obtain a permit)

What topics are on the exam?

The NC-DAP English and Reading test is made up of three sections:

  • Reading  – 30 multiple choice questions
  • Revising and Editing Writing – 20 multiple choice questions
  • WriterPlacer – students will be required to write a short essay based on a testing prompt

What other information do I need to know about the NC-DAP English test?

  • The test is computerized – This includes the Essay section
  • The Essay section hasa 2 hour time limit
  • All multiple choice sections are untimed

Cosmetology

PCC Placement Testing no longer administers testing for Cosmetology students. Testing for Cosmetology is conducted through the Cosmetology program.

EMT

Students enrolling in the EMT program are required to score in the 11th grade level or higher on the ACCUPLACER Reading Comprehension AND Arithmetic exams.  The ACCUPLACER placement tests are untimed, computerized , multiple choice exams.

What scores do I need to meet the requirements of the EMS program?

ACCUPLACER Reading Comprehension
EMS students are required to score a 70+ on the ACCUPLACER Reading Comprehension test in order to meet the 11th grade level or higher reading  requirement for EMS

ACCUPLACER Arithmetic
EMT students are required to score a 59+ on the ACCUPLACER Arithmetic test in order to meet the 11th grade level or higher math requirements for EMS

When is the exam offered?

EMS testing is offered strictly on a walk-in basis on Fridays from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM (the last test must begin no later than 3:00 PM).

Note: Students do not have to make an appointment to take an EMS test.

What do I need to bring with me on the day of testing?

  • All students are required to show a photo ID in order to test – No Exceptions

Nursing Assistant I & II (NA I & NA II) and Phlebotomy

Students enrolling in a Nursing Assistant or Phlebotomy program are required to take the ACCUPLACER Reading Comprehension AND Arithmetic exams. The ACCUPLACER placement tests are untimed, computerized, multiple choice exams.

What scores do I need to meet the requirements of the Nursing Assistant and/or the Phlebotomy programs?

ACCUPLACER Reading Comprehension
Nursing Assistant and Phlebotomy students are required to score a 30+ on the ACCUPLACER Reading Comprehension test in order to meet reading requirements for Nursing Assistant and/or Phlebotomy.

ACCUPLACER Arithmetic
Nursing Assistant and Phlebotomy students are required to score a 30+ on the ACCUPLACER Arithmetic test in order to meet math requirements for Nursing Assistant and/or Phlebotomy.

When is the exam offered?
