CASAS Testing

Basic Law Enforcement Enforcement Training (BLET)

Students enrolling in the BLET program are required to score at the 10th-grade level or higher on the CASAS Reading assessment. The Placement Testing Office offers the CASAS Reading test for BLET students. The CASAS assessment is computerized.

• BLET students are required to bring a BLET Testing Permit to their scheduled placement test (students should contact BLET at 252-493-7572 to obtain a permit).

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Students enrolling in the EMT program are required to score at the 11th-grade level or higher on the CASAS Reading and Arithmetic assessments. The Placement Testing Office offers the CASAS Reading and Arithmetic for EMT students. The CASAS assessment is computerized.

Prospective students needing to take the CASAS placement test for entry into the EMS Program, must have a student ID number before being allowed to sit for the test. Additionally, prospective students are only granted 3 attempts at the CASAS placement test to score the required level for entry. After the first two unsuccessful attempts, students should reach out to Transitional Studies (Adult Basic Education) to enroll in IXL, which is a free, online platform, that has a comprehensive CASAS test prep section. Or if prospective students prefer in-person help, they can sign up for one of our Adult Basic Education classes at PCC. These are offered during both day and evening and are free of charge. Prospective students should complete approximately 40 contact hours of remediation training before scheduling to retest again to ensure they are adequately prepared.
