Placement Testing

Welcome to Placement Testing

Welcome to Pitt Community College Testing Center! We are excited you chose Pitt Community College to help navigate your educational goals along your journey to success.

Pitt Community College Testing Center offers the Reinforced Instruction for Student Excellence (RISE) Placement Test. The test is used to determine your college readiness and assess your skill level in English and Math. This is a computerized assessment and it is not timed.

We recommend that students study and prepare for the placement test prior to scheduling a testing appointment. While this is not a pass/fail test, we want you to do your best.

We administer all testing services by appointment only. Our testing appointment times are 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. You can schedule an appointment by clicking PCC Online Scheduler.

Student(s) must be able to login into their (myPittCC) accounts with their usernames and passwords in order to access the RISE placement test. If students are unsuccessful logging into their accounts, they will need to call the Helpdesk for assistance prior to scheduling their test. Helpdesk: 252-493-7487

**To practice safety and allow for social distancing, we are scheduling 10 students per test. Please plan accordingly.

  • GPA is used for all U.S. high school graduates.
  • Students who graduated high school 10+ years ago will have the option to take placement test, but GPA will be used unless the student requests this option.
  • Placement test will be used for GED/HISET and International Students.

Placement Tests  (for Curriculum Courses)

For information regarding High School Equivalency (GED®, TASC ™)/Adult High School testing click here.

If you are a new student, you will probably need to take the placement test. The placement test includes sections on math and English. The placement test determines where you will start your coursework at PCC.  We offer a variety of classes to meet the needs of every student who enrolls. It is important that each student begins coursework where they will be most successful. The placement test can help us to determine which class will best meet your needs.

It is important to take this test very seriously and to do your best. Your starting point will affect your graduation date, so take some time to explore the information about the placement test.
