Technical Standards for Students
A student seeking enrollment in any Transitional Studies program (Adult Literacy, Adult secondary education/GED/HSE, Adult High School, English Language Acquisition, Career Academy, Work-based Literacy, Career and College Readiness, Transition Courses) must meet the following technical standards:
The student must:
- Be able to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Adhere to the Pitt Community College Student Code of Conduct.
- Be able to take a National Reporting Service (NRS)-approved assessment in order to determine an educational functioning level as defined by Title II of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and Office of Career and Technical Adult Education (OCTAE), with or without accommodations.
- Perform below college-level proficiency in literacy, academics, and/or English.
- Be able to work independently and follow verbal instructions and guidelines for participation in coursework.
- Be able to self-direct and regulate behavior in activities related to class attendance, assignments and activities.
- Behave independently in a classroom environment.
- Be at least 18 years old or submit required documentation and notarized paperwork to enroll as a 16 or 17 year old. (Students under 16 may not enroll in Transitional Studies.)
- Not be currently enrolled in high school (either withdrawn or graduated).
- Not be concurrently enrolled in English and BSP English/Reading or Math and BSP Math classes.
