Associate in Fine Arts

The Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) degree program is designed for the student who aspires to transfer to a four-year college or university while concentrating in the area of fine arts. The completion of the AFA degree fulfills the freshman and sophomore requirements and allows the student to claim junior status at the receiving four-year institution.

The general education core includes study in the areas of humanities and fine arts, social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences and mathematics, and English composition. Within the core, colleges must include opportunities for the achievement of competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and the basic use of computer (SACS Criteria, 4.2.2).

AFA-Visual Arts required courses include:

Music Theory I-IV
Aural Skills I-IV
Applied Music Lessons
PCC Ensembles (Chorale, Orchestra, Elements of Praise, Jazz Band)
Class Piano, Class Guitar, and Class Voice

AFA-Visual Arts
Elements and Principles of Design Skills learned will vary depending upon the course work you choose. We offer classes in Design, Drawing, Ceramics, Textiles, Photography, Sculpture, Painting, Metals and Jewelry. Additionally, we offer a capstone class that helps artists prepare a professional portfolio and resume.

AFA-Music
The Music Department seeks to prepare students for a career in music while offering educational enrichment that meets a lifelong learning needs of a diverse citizenry. Our goal is to prepare the student with the skills to be able to transfer into a four-year university or college to earn a bachelor’s degree or, if desired, to begin their professional career in music making. The Department of Music provides quality instruction from professional musicians with a tremendous amount of performance opportunities for all students.  Our students become well versed in Music Theory and Aural Skills; enjoy Ensemble Experiences; and learn life skills relevant for professional musicians and music educators.
