MAT-003 Transition Math (3 Credits)

This course provides an opportunity to customize foundational math content in specific math areas and will include developing a growth mindset. Topics include developing the academic habits, learning strategies, social skills, and growth mindset necessary to be successful in mathematics. Upon completion, students should be able to build a stronger foundation for success in their gateway level math courses by obtaining skills through a variety of instructional strategies with emphasis placed on the most essential prerequisite knowledge.

MAT-010 Math Measurement & Literacy Support (1 Credit)

This course provides an opportunity to customize foundational math content specific to Math Measurement & Literacy. Topics include developing the academic habits, learning strategies, social skills, and growth mindset necessary to be successful in mathematics. Upon completion, students should be able to build a stronger foundation for success in Math Measurement & Literacy by obtaining skills through a variety of instructional strategies with emphasis placed on the most essential prerequisite knowledge. Requisites: Take MAT-110 based on RISE criteria – Must be taken at the same time as this course.

MAT-021 Algebra/Trigonometry I Support (2 Credits)

This course provides an opportunity to customize foundational math content specific to Algebra and Trigonometry I. Topics include developing the academic habits, learning strategies, social skills, and growth mindset necessary to be successful in mathematics. Upon completion, students should be able to build a stronger foundation for success in Algebra/Trigonometry I by obtaining skills through a variety of instructional strategies with emphasis placed on the most essential prerequisite knowledge. Requisites: Take MAT-121 based on RISE criteria. – Must be taken at the same time as this course.

MAT-043 Quantitative Literacy Support (2 Credits)

This course provides an opportunity to customize foundational math content specific to Quantitative Literacy. Topics include developing the academic habits, learning strategies, social skills, and growth mindset necessary to be successful in mathematics. Upon completion, students should be able to build a stronger foundation for success in Quantitative Literacy by obtaining skills through a variety of instructional strategies with emphasis placed on the most essential prerequisite knowledge. Requisites: Take MAT-143 based on RISE criteria – Must be taken at the same time as this course.

MAT-052 Statistical Methods I Support (2 Credits)

This course provides an opportunity to customize foundational math content specific to Statistical Methods I. Topics include developing the academic habits, learning strategies, social skills, and growth mindset necessary to be successful in mathematics. Upon completion, students should be able to build a stronger foundation for success in Statistical Methods I by obtaining skills through a variety of instructional strategies with emphasis placed on the most essential prerequisite knowledge. Requisites: Take MAT-152 based on RISE criteria – Must be taken at the same time as this course.

MAT-071 Precalculus Algebra Support (2 Credits)

This course provides an opportunity to customize foundational math content specific to Precalculus Algebra. Topics include developing the academic habits, learning strategies, social skills, and growth mindset necessary to be successful in mathematics. Upon completion, students should be able to build a stronger foundation for success in Precalculus Algebra by obtaining skills through a variety of instructional strategies with emphasis placed on the most essential prerequisite knowledge. Requisites: Take MAT-171 based on RISE criteria. – Must be taken at the same time as this course.

ENG-002 Transition English (3 Credits)

This course provides an opportunity to customize foundational English content in specific areas and will include developing a growth mindset. Topics include developing the academic habits, learning strategies, social skills, and growth mindset necessary to be successful in college-level English. Upon completion, students should be able to build a stronger foundation for success in their gateway level English courses by obtaining skills through a variety of instructional strategies with emphasis placed on the most essential prerequisite knowledge. Requisites: None

ENG-011 Writing and Inquiry Support (2 Credits)

This course is designed to support students in the development of skills necessary for success in ENG 111 by complementing, supporting, and reinforcing ENG 111 Student Learning Outcomes. Emphasis is placed on developing a growth mindset, expanding skills for use in active reading and writing processes, recognizing organizational relationships within texts from a variety of genres and formats, and employing appropriate technology when reading and composing texts. Upon completion, students should be able to apply active reading strategies to college-level texts and produce unified, well-developed writing using standard written English.

Requisites: Take ENG-111 based on RISE criteria. – Must be taken at the same time as this course.

Academic Success

ACA-090 Student Success Strategies (3 Credits)

This course is intended to provide students with skills and strategies to promote success in college, career, and life. Topics include the College’s physical, academic, and social environment, promotes personal development, and cultivates learning strategies essential for student success. Upon completion, students should be able to manage their learning experiences to meet educational and life goals. At Pitt Community College this course is required of students who place into two developmental courses.
