Prepare for Success in College with Developmental Education and Academic Support

Pitt Community College strives to make higher education accessible to as many students as possible. That’s why we offer Developmental Education and Academic Support to any student who is preparing for college or just wants to brush up on their study skills.

As a part of the Developmental Education and Academic Support program at PCC, you’ll take a variety of supplemental developmental studies courses to gain academic self-confidence and be ready for college-level courses. Course topics include developmental English, developmental math, and college study skills. Our courses and support are rooted in the core concepts of college student developmental studies.

Excel with dedicated academic support

When you join Developmental Education and Academic Support, you’ll be backed by departments and services from across the PCC community. In addition to your classes in study skills, developmental English, and developmental math, you will also have access to Tutorial Services through face-to-face or online tutoring to further supplement your PCC developmental studies courses.

Additionally, both the PCC Library and Transitional Studies are closely aligned with Developmental Education and Academic Support to provide even more academic support and services to the students who need them the most.

Why Choose Developmental Education and Academic Support at Pitt Community College?

We’ve based our Developmental Education and Academic Support program on the fundamental tenets of developmental studies for college students to ensure that you take the classes and receive the academic support that is right for you and where you are in your educational journey.

You’ll work closely with knowledgeable and empathetic faculty mentors who foster the mission of PCC through active engagement throughout the college and the surrounding community. In addition to your developmental studies courses, you’ll have access to three tutoring centers and an Academic Skills lab to enhance your study skills and find dedicated time to focus on your class assignments.

With developmental studies courses in English and math, you can build a solid understanding of each discipline’s key concepts, rules, and strategies to prepare you to excel both at PCC and beyond in your career.

The faculty and staff in our Developmental Education and Academic Support program are highly experienced and work with a diverse range of students — from high school graduates to retired workers returning to school. We work with students on campus and remotely, so no matter where you live or how hectic your schedule is, we can always provide the academic support and learning services you need to succeed.

Opportunities for Success in the Developmental Education and Academic Support Program

Developmental Education and Academic Support at PCC opens the door to college so that more students can meet the demands of higher education while mastering the study skills to become self-reliant, responsible college students.

A high percentage of our students pass their developmental English and developmental math courses and are ready to take college-level courses in their majors and beyond. They enter their degree programs with a strong foundation of academic support from across the campus community.

Because we root everything we do in developmental studies, your path in the Developmental Education and Academic Support program can be customized to you and your learning styles. You can tailor your developmental math and developmental English courses to build upon the strategies and theories you already know to advance faster and grow more confident in your math and literacy skills.

“I cannot thank them enough for their help, support, and encouragement, which I had from the first day at PCC and still have now. They make PCC a great place for all students.”
