State Authorization & Professional Licensure/Certification
State Authorization
In compliance with U.S. Department of Education regulation 600.9(c) regarding State Authorization, Pitt Community College must secure authorization from states and territories beyond North Carolina to offer online courses to residents who do not reside in North Carolina.
Pitt Community College is participating in NC-SARA, National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement. As a result, Pitt Community College is authorized to offer online courses to residents from states that are also participating in NC-SARA.

Professional Licensure/Certification
Programs at Pitt Community College that prepare students for professional licensure/certification are designed to prepare a student to apply for applicable licensure/certification in North Carolina. While Pitt Community College has been approved to participate in NC-SARA, NC-SARA does not deal with professional licensing/certification board approval for any courses or programs leading to professional licensure/certification. Residents outside of North Carolina who desire to enroll in a course or program leading to professional licensure/certification may review the licensure disclosure to determine the status of a course or program in each state.
The Program Templates, that can be accessed within the Professional Licensure/Certification Disclosures section below, determine whether PCC:
– meets state educational requirements for licensure or certification
– does not meet state educational requirements for licensure or certification
– or a determination has not yet been made
Questions related to professional licensure should be forwarded to the program contact noted on the respective licensure disclosure.

SACSCOC Student Complaint Process
Pitt Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award Associate Degrees. Degree-granting institutions also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels. Students may follow the SACSCOC Complaint Procedure. The contact information for SACSCOC is:
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)
1866 Southern Lane
Decatur, GA 30033
Telephone: 404-679-4500
Website: https://sacscoc.org/
Inquiries to SACSCOC should relate only to the accreditation status of the institution and not to general admission requirements, financial aid, educational programs or issues involving application of academic regulations.
SACSCOC expects individuals to attempt to resolve complaints against the College through all means available to the student, including following the College’s own procedures, before submitting a complaint to the Commission. Therefore, the Commission’s usual practice is not to consider a complaint that is currently in administrative proceedings, including institutional proceedings, or in litigation. However, if there is substantial, credible evidence that indicates systemic problems with an accredited institution, the Commission may, at its discretion, choose to proceed with the review.
The Commission will not entertain complaints that are not in writing or which are anonymous, nor will it consider complaints sent electronically or through facsimile transmission. In addition, the Commission will not act on complaints submitted on behalf of another individual or complaints forwarded to the Commission.
