2013 PCC Year-in-Review

PCC Investing in Campus Safety

PCC police have taken part in active shooter training drills for the past several years. The college is planning to conduct an active shooter drill on campus in 2014.
PCC is looking to invest more than $150,000 toward an ongoing campus-wide security initiative that will span well into the new year.

Architectural Tech Grad Earns Gold Award

At its November conference, the N.C. Society of the American Institute of Building Design presented an award to recent Architectural Technology graduate Sara Baker.

• Ronald Cotton spent nearly 11 years of his life behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit. During a presentation at the college in December, he spoke with students about a book he wrote detailing his wrongful conviction, his days in prison and a pardon that came more than a decade later. • Each year, faculty and staff volunteer to sponsor TRiO:SSS students and provide them with gifts from their Christmas wishlists. It's just another way PCC supports students beyond the classroom. (VIDEO)

• PCC students interested in pursuing nursing careers are being encouraged to apply for participation in the Eastern North Carolina Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses (RIBN) partnership. (READ MORE)

• The PCC Alumni Association launched an online community this fall intended to help former PCC students and graduates reconnect with each other and support their alma mater. (READ MORE) (VIDEO)

• Freshman Zach Gurganus recently donated two of his paintings to benefit the college’s 2013 United Way fundraising campaign. (READ MORE)

• PCC Global is seeking travelers interested in participating in a 12-day European educational adventure this spring. (READ MORE)

• PCC Trustees held their regularly-scheduled meeting Dec. 17 in the training facility at Greenville Fire/Rescue Station No. 6 on 10th Street. (PHOTO)

• Trustees and senior administrators met with members of the North Carolina General Assembly on campus Dec. 6 to discuss the college's recent accomplishments and to outline future needs and goals. (PHOTO GALLERY)

• After topping Vance-Granville by a 119-60 count on Dec. 11, PCC Basketball closed out 2013 with a 6-2 overall record. After losing their first two games of the season, the Bulldogs have reeled off six straight wins and will look to make it seven in a row Jan. 8, when they face the UNC-Chapel Hill junior varsity squad in the Dean E. Smith Center at 6 p.m. (2013-14 SCHEDULE)

• With a number of key players returning, PCC Softball will begin practicing for the 2014 campaign on Jan. 10. The Bulldogs, who reached the NJCAA Division I Fast-Pitch Softball Championship before finishing 28-13 last year, will open the new season at home Feb. 7 against Surry Community College. First pitch at Winterville Recreation Park is set for 1 p.m. (2014 SCHEDULE)

• PCC Baseball has released its 2014 schedule. The Bulldogs are slated to play 30 games at Minges-Overton Baseball Park this season, starting with a non-conference doubleheader against Wake Tech on Feb. 8. (2014 SCHEDULE)
