Former SGA President Derek Combs Creates Memorial Scholarship with PCC Foundation

WINTERVILLE—Former Pitt Community College Student Government Association President Derek Combs presented the PCC Foundation with a $1,000-check this week in support of a scholarship he has established with the organization in memory of his grandfather, Billy Ray Combs Sr.
The 24-year-old Combs, whose grandfather died of pancreatic cancer last year at age 68, says he started the scholarship to assist middle-aged students who are battling cancer and may want to take a few courses at PCC during their fight.
A 2008 graduate of PCC’s university transfer program, Combs served as SGA president during the 2007-08 academic year. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University in 2010.
