AKA Sorority Supports Gore Scholarship
WINTERVILLE—Members of Greenville’s Iota Kappa Omega (IKO) Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., presented $500 to the Pitt Community College Foundation recently to help fund the Addie Gore Scholarship.
The Addie Gore Scholarship was established in memory of its namesake, who was IKO’s first president. Gore was also a Home Extension agent in Pitt County for 32 years.
Greenville’s Stephanie Sanders is the most recent recipient of the Addie Gore Scholarship. The daughter of James and Mary Sanders, she is enrolled in the Associate in General Education program at Pitt as she completes admission requirements for the college’s Medical Sonography program.
Sanders, who is a PCC Student Ambassador, plans to continue her education after PCC and pursue a career as a physician. She is a graduate of North Pitt High School and the Pitt County Health Sciences Academy.
The Addie Gore Scholarship is based on financial need and is awarded each year to a student at PCC to reward and encourage academic excellence.
