What is TRIO: Student Support Services?
Congress, in support of our nation's commitment to provide an educational opportunity for all Americans regardless of race, ethnic background, or economic circumstances, established a series of programs to help disadvantaged students to enter college, graduate and move on to participate more fully in America's economic and social life. These programs are funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and are known as TRIO programs. They may provide information, counseling, academic instruction, tutoring, assistance in applying for financial aid, encouragement and support.
Student Support Services:
The Student Support Services Program is sponsored by Pitt Community College and funded through a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The purpose of the program is to help low-income, first-generation (neither parent has a four-year degree), and disabled students persist, graduate, and earn their baccalaureate degree.
