|Dr. LaTonya Nixon, Director
LaTonya M. Nixon has served as the Pitt Community College TRIO Director since 2005, but she has been a part of the TRIO community for 18 years. Mrs. Nixon has a very serious commitment to higher education and her desire is to see all students regardless of race, socioeconomic status, age or gender reach their educational endeavors. She leads an extraordinary team of professionals dedicated to serving the at risk student population with her motto: “We are here to serve you.”
Kim Waters has been a member of the Pitt CC TRIO Staff since August 2008. As a counselor, Ms. Waters has the opportunity to interact with TRIO students on a daily basis. She feels that if students are given adequate support and resources, they can achieve their academic and personal goals. Ms. Waters takes great pride in assisting students in reaching their academic milestones at PCC.
|Amy Staton, Lead Tutor
Ms. Amy L. Staton joined the TRIO: Student Support Services staff as Lead Tutor in December 2013. Ms. Staton received her degree in middle grades education from East Carolina University. Having taught within the Pitt County School system for thirteen years, she is passionate about all students receiving a quality education and a chance at success. Ms. Staton will be working closely with the peer tutors and the rest of the SSS staff to help coordinate the TRIO tutoring program.
|Pamela Edwards, TRIO: Math Academic Specialist
Pamela Edwards joined the TRiO: Student Support Services staff in September 2015 as the Math Academic Specialist. Mrs. Edwards worked in both private and public school systems for several years after obtaining her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mathematics/ Mathematics Education. Her passion is mathematics and a strong desire to erase the fear of mathematics and to help others achieve their lifelong goals through education.
|Starlena Peel, Administrative Assistant & Data Specialist
Ms. Starlena Peel joined the TRiO: Student Support Services staff in 2014 as the Administrative Assistant/ Data Specialist. Along with having 2+ years' experience providing great customer service she has also been with the college for 3+ years. She is responsible for managing the SSS database and because she is the first voice callers hear and the first person visitors see, Ms. Peel provides outstanding service to all students and staff, while handling other numerous tasks.
