Credential File FAQs
Please complete the Online Nursing Credentials Request Form for each employer with whom you would like for Career Services to share your references. Prior to completing the form, please read the information below so that you will know what to expect when completing the form.
What is a credential file?
It is made up of supporting documentation for the job search process. Certain fields such as healthcare, require supporting documentation from faculty and clinical supervisors in addition to a typical application and resume submission.
What is included in my file?
Your file consists of a placement data form, which you sign giving PCC permission to share your information with prospective employers and the student reference form that is completed by appropriate faculty or site supervisors.
It is your responsibility that your reference forms reach the Career Services office. We recommend that you follow-up with your references to ensure forms have been sent to the Career Services office. Please feel free to contact the Career Services office at 252.493.7245 to confirm the references in your credential file.
Who should I ask to complete a reference for me?
It is recommended that you ask professional contacts who can speak to your academic ability, experience in your chosen field, or past work opportunities where your "soft skills" can be highlighted. It's important to ask any reference for a time to talk with them about your career goals and ask them if they would be open to completing a reference for you. Offering to come back and pick up the reference from them can make the process easier for those who complete a reference form.
How many references should I have in my file?
Three references is the preferred number to include. Most employers request a first-year and a second-year clinical reference.
Who do I contact to request my references be sent to an employer?
All requests for references must be submitted to the Career Services office using the Online Nursing Credentials Request Form (found at the top of the page, immediately following the Credential File FAQs header). When completing the Request Form, you will be asked to choose a method for sending your references: mail, fax or in-person pick up. Phone call requests will not be accepted.
Online requests for references to be mailed or faxed that are received prior to 1:00 p.m. will be fulfilled the same business day. Requests received after 1:00 p.m. will be completed on the next business day.
In-person pick up requests will be available within two business days following request submission. The Request Form will not allow you to choose an earlier date.
Please note that excluding any information from your request will delay the transmission of your references.
