Bulldogs Have Won Five of Last Six Games
After falling to Wake Tech in Raleigh Jan. 16, Pitt Community College has won two straight and five of its last six to push its season mark to 13-3 overall, 6-1 in the Region X Conference.
Chris McLawhorn and JaQuan Blount combined for 42 points to lead the Bulldogs past Guilford Tech on Sunday in Jamestown, 99-77.
McLawhorn handled inside duties for PCC with 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double while Blount added seven boards and seven assists to go along with 20 points.
For the game, PCC shot 47 percent from the field (36-for-77) against the Titans, including 6-for-18 from behind the 3-point arc.
Pitt led 40-31 at the start of the second half before GTCC went on a 7-2 run to pull to within four points at 42-38 with 18:32 remaining. After a Bulldogs timeout, though, PCC caught fire, scoring 16 unanswered to make it 58-38. The Titans wouldn’t get any closer than 19 the rest of the way.
PCC turned the ball over just 12 times against Guilford. Dee Robinson led Pitt in assists with nine to go along with 13 points. Mike Tyson added 10 points in the paint and corralled 11 of the Bulldogs’ 49 rebounds.
Next up for PCC is Lenoir Community College Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. in Kinston.
