Brittany Gibson Signs with Mars Hill College
WINTERVILLE—Pitt Community College softball player Brittany Gibson will continue her playing career at Mars Hill College next season, after signing a letter-of-intent to play with the Lions earlier this month.
Gibson, a sophomore centerfielder from Laurinburg, was part of PCC's 2011 squad that finished 49-9 overall and made it to the NJCAA Division I Fast-Pitch Softball Championship in Utah. This year’s team is 30-15 overall with the Region X Conference Tournament—and a potential trip to the national tourney—still on the docket.
In two seasons with the Bulldogs, Gibson batted .269 with 53 runs batted in, 22 stolen bases, two home runs, nine triples and 15 doubles to go along with a .959 fielding percentage.
“Brittany is the total package,” says PCC softball coach Junior Bailey. “She hits for power, plays the outfield well, and has great speed.”
Bailey said he is going to have a tough time filling the void in centerfield next season.
“Brittany has always been a hard worker, a coachable athlete, and a great teammate,” he said. “I am excited for her to continue her career at Mars Hill, and I am certain she will be a great asset to their program.
“I am also confident she will continue growing as a player under Coach Monica Gordy at Mars Hill, because she is always looking for ways to make her game and her team better.”
