Volleyball Wins Region X Conference Title
With a 14-2 record, PCC Volleyball has won the Region X Conference regular-season title for the first time since 2006 and will seek a conference tournament championship this weekend in Dobson, N.C.
The Bulldogs closed out regular-season play Oct. 28 with a 3-0 victory over Johnston Community College to go 27-7 overall in 2011. Megan Mansfield had 10 kills for PCC, which blanked the Jaguars, 25-0, in the first set before taking the next two, 25-9 and 25-21.
Earlier in the day, Pitt fell to Brunswick Community College, 3-1. The Bulldogs won the first set, 25-21, but proceeded to lose the next three, 25-19, 26-24 and 27-25, for only their second Region X loss this season.
Catherine Barber had 10 kills for the Bulldogs while Mansfield and Taylor Norris finished with nine kills each. Leah Mackley recorded 19 assists, and Stephanie Zampini had 18 digs.
Next up for Pitt is the Region X Conference Tournament Nov. 4-6 at Surry Community College.
If the Bulldogs are to win the conference tourney this weekend and move on to the national championship in Wisconsin later this month, they will most likely have to go through Florida's Pasco Hernando College—last year's national champion. Since the Region X Tournament also serves as a district tourney, Pasco Hernando will participate along with PCC and six other Region X colleges.
