PCC Can't Top Jags with 4 in Double Figures
SMITHFIELD-Four players finished in double figures scoring for Pitt Community College but it wasnít enough to propel the Bulldogs past Johnston Community College Saturday as the team fell to 0-9 overall with an 83-70 loss to the Jaguars.
Hot-shooting A.J. Scarboro finished 5-for-5 from behind the three-point line and tallied 18 of his game-high 24 points in the first half to help JCC race out to a 53-31 lead by intermission.
PCC didn't make it easy for the Jags, though. Utilizing pressure man-to-man defense throughout the second half, the Bulldogs forced 14 JCC turnovers and cut the deficit to four points with five minutes on the clock.
Terrance Drakeford keyed Pitt's second-half surge but left the game with a neck and shoulder injury and did not return. PCC, which outscored Johnston 39-30 in the second half, would not get any closer than four the rest of the way.
Tyrelle Jackson scored 15 to pace the Bulldogs offensively. Chuckie Becton dropped in 14 to go along with 14 rebounds while Darren Wilson finished with 12 points and 13 boards. Drakeford tacked on 10 points.
In addition to Scarboro's heroics, Brandon Smith (10 points, nine rebounds) and Bobby White (10 points) came up big for the Jaguars.
PCC will have two weeks to get players healthy and build chemistry before taking the court again Jan. 22 at Vance-Granville Community College.
