PCC Battles Flyers but Fall to 0-2 with Loss
Pitt Community College dropped its second game of the season in as many tries Saturday with a 101-100 loss to visiting Sandhills Community College.
Led by Dominique Holloway's 19 points, PCC led early but fell behind by halftime, 52-44. The Bulldogs would work their way back into the game in the second half after trailing by as many as 11 but time ran out before they could get off a buzzer-beater, dropping the team to 0-2.
Holloway turned in a well-rounded performance with five rebounds, four steals and three assists to go along with his team-high in points scored. Jerrel Williams pitched in with 18 points, seven rebounds and four steals for Pitt, while teammates Tyrelle Jackson and John Setters added 16 points each.
Clay Thorne led all scorers for the Flyers (6-2) with 24 to go along with a game-high 14 rebounds. Joe Houpe (16 points and five rebounds) and Johnny Elliott (15 points and five boards) were also key performers for Sandhills, which got a 10-foot jumper from Daquain Towns with 18 seconds to go for a 101-97 lead.
After a Setters 3-pointer cut the lead to one, PCC fouled Chad Anderson, sending him to the free-throw line. After Anderson missed both free-throw attempts, Pitt grabbed the rebound but could not get off a shot before time expired.
