If you love playing video games, this is the camp for you! Make your first video game in this one-of-a-kind camp that shows you the keys to designing your first 2D platformer game. Conceptualization, play experience, level design, graphics, sounds, and simple coding are just some of the concepts that we’ll explore. Returning campers will have the opportunity to create more advanced projects.

Use your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Introductory coding will also be taught through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft.

In this Black Rocket classic, you will go well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game designs and create an immersive 3D world. Campers will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner scripting, level design, controlling flow of gameplay, and story telling.

Discover how to code in the Lua language while playing and designing words in ROBLOX, an online universe where you can create anything you dream of. We combine game design concepts and coding with fun! Young entrepreneurs will learn how to navigate Roblox’s fast growing marketplace to publish their games.

Would you like to learn to make 3-dimensional objects from a computer model? This camp will introduce campers to Tinkercad (an online 3D software that can be used at home), 3D printers, PCC’s Machining and Pneumatics Lab, and the Virtual Welding Lab. We hope to spark interest in young minds to consider careers one day in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Systems, or Computer Integrated Machining.

Join us as we explore the exciting world of electronics and robotics! This camp will teach you a variety of skills such as soldering and coding. Campers will even visit the Electronics and Engineering department on campus to see what goes on each day!

Location: A.B. Whitley Building, Room 215 on PCC Campus

Campers will be introduced to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) based careers here on PCC’s campus through hands-on activities in our CIT division. We plan to introduce campers to approximately 2 different programs a day, possibly more with time permitting. Each activity will be used to show campers the importance of STEAM and how it is constantly used in the everyday workplace.

Learn all about Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0 robots and software. Campers will work with a partner to create a robot that can complete simple tasks. You will learn how to use multiple sensors and a drag and drop coding technique for programming your robot.

The Computer Technologies Department at Pitt Community College will host a week-long Air Force Association (AFA) CyberCamp. Designed for a range of technical skill levels, campers will learn cyber defense skills through hands-on instruction and activities. The AFA CyberCamp will culminate in a final team competition that simulates real cybersecurity situations faced by industry professionals.

MUSIC Camps

Explore: Music Therapy Rocks

Music Therapy Rocks is great for individuals on the autism spectrum, or with developmental or physical disabilities, to add their own beats and melodies to this vibrant social time together. Enjoy making music through voice, percussion, and dance, and engage in social experiences with other campers as well as professional music therapists. This camp uses activities to achieve social, cognitive, motor, and communication skills.

Want to try a variety of musical instruments? Campers will have the chance to explore and practice with musical instruments such as woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion, guitar, piano, voice and recorders at the Music Academy of Eastern Carolina. This is a great hands-on opportunity to see what instrument and medium is right for you!

Do music symbols look like foreign drawings to you? Learn to speak the musical language with your guitar! We will teach you basic skills, correct left and right hand positions; special exercises to accelerate the guitar playing; how to get started with chords; rhythm, patterns, and strums; successful practice techniques; and much more. You will need your own guitar. MAEC has a limited number of guitars available for use on a first come basis.

If you are just learning piano, or have never played, join us for fun-filled activities to explore the world of music and piano! Get introduced to the fundamentals of music through movement, singing, games, piano, improvisation, ear training, and music reading.

OUTDOOR CAMPS

Learn top notch tricks while supporting your skills and greatly enhancing your abilities. Offered by the riders of ProTown BMX, campers will participate in groups of similar skills and age. Camp will offer safety education, bike maintenance, general skatepark etiquette, and skills/tricks using different ramps. You will need to be able to ride a bike without training wheels. Any bike will do, but prefer a BMX type bike with 2 pegs, rear hand brakes, and a free wheel. Also required are proper-fitting helmets and knee pads. ProTown BMX will have some demo bikes available to use with helmets and knee pads for purchase at discounted prices.

Explore: Wakeboarding Camp

Do you want to be outside this summer? Do you like the water? Join us as we learn to wakeboard at Cable Paradise Park! This camp is for all skill levels, from beginner to experienced. When you aren’t wakeboarding, you can have a blast playing games like cornhole, volleyball, and giant Jenga. Enjoy relaxing on the man-made beach or take a turn on the water slide. Cable Paradise Park has fun activities for everyone! Campers will need to pass a basic swim test.

GAMING Camps

Explore: Become a Pokemon Trainer!

Campers will learn deck construction, competitive play, rules of the Pokemon League, and everything you need to be the best Pokemon Trainer around! This camp helps develop critical thinking skills, literacy skills, and social skills, all while having fun. Older kids with Pokemon Training Card Game experience may join the camp as Junior Professionals (Counselors) and will assist the Camp Pokemon Professors with one-on-one instruction while learning valuable leadership skills and how to work in a team. Price includes: Elite Trainer Box, Pokemon Theme Deck, 2 Deck Boxes, and 6 Pokemon boosters.

Explore: Master the Magic Gathering!

Have you ever wanted to create your own board game? This camp will give you the grounding principles and knowledge base necessary to do just that! Campers will explore a range of modern day board games in order to learn core strategies and mechanics. Brainstorming sessions will spur creativity and prepare you for the final day of camp: Pitching your game to a game designer! Price includes: A digital copy of the White Box Essays on game design, technical language skills relevant to the industry, experience working on a creative project from creation to completion, and access to future playtesting group to further develop your game.
