Conversational Spanish I

Students will understand the basics of the Spanish language with the use of communicative activities. Students will have fun learning Spanish without going through tedious or boring vocabulary and grammatical lessons and drills! The class will be fun and interactive! Aviation Ground School for Pilots

This course is a study of aerospace history, weather, navigation, instruments, preflight planning, regulations, radio communications, and the aviation field and procedures necessary to become a safe pilot. Classes are oriented toward the latest material available from the Federal Aviation Agency and students are prepared to pass the written examination by the Government. Cost: $135


Personal Protection in the Home
Hours: 8

This course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense. Students should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition and will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate. Proof of shooting experience can be one of the following: NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or a NC CONCEALED CARRY PERMIT. Practical French

The most important thing when you learn a new language is doing it with fun. Forget your nightmares about learning vocabulary lists by heart. In this class, you will practice and improve your conversational skills in an interactive way. Various topics will be used to constitute a practical French toolkit. These topics can be the following but will be adapted to your interests and you objectives: Culture (movies, music, theater, food and beverage, special holidays), Sport (soccer, rugby, cycling, rallye), Trip Preparation (places of interest, websites), and Game Tables (teach your classmates how to play your favorite game). Watercolor Basics

Intermediate Watercolor Painting

Patriotic Porch Decor

Students will learn techniques for creating a door wreath using deco-mesh and other materials and will learn to properly plan and plant a patio planter for sun or shade. Emphasis will be placed design principles for both wreath and planters. Students will learn the difference between good and poor designs. Additional patriotic-themed decorating ideas will be provided. Cost: $35


American Sign Language

Students will learn how basic vocabulary, grammar rules, and conversational skills of American Sign Language. Some of the topics are: introducing oneself, leisure activities, living arrangements, and family just to name a few. Must have access to Internet. Cost: $79


Introduction to Sailing

Learn the history, terminology, theory and practice of the oldest application of ‘GREEN’ power—sailing the oceans ONLY using the wind! In 10 weeks we will cover the boat, the forces and the techniques of moving it under wind power. Along the way we will learn the language of sailing and have brief looks at the history of sailing, from Egyptian pharaohs through the greatest sailing navy ever assembled up to the present including a brief look at The America’s Cup-the oldest championship in ALL of sport. Our text, SAIL, was developed by the United States Power Squadrons, which is recognized as a top boating education organization in the country. Cost: $119 (Includes text)


Creating an Art Business

This class will focus on helping students define goals as professionals and working artists, while learning productive tactics to achieve those goals. The final goal will be to create a business focused artist/crafts person portfolio. Cost: $59


An Artistic Identity

This class will focus on helping students create an identity that can be used for professional marketing, work documentation and beginning the stages of marketing and branding and networking. The focus will be on exposing students to sources for business cards and other materials required for a professional identity. Cost: $59


Into the Real World

This course will focus on conducting public relations in the art world. Subjects covered will include: How to seek out gallery representation, setting up an exhibition or business expo, and creating "elevator" speeches. Cost: $59


Show and Glow
Hours: 16

This course will be a culmination of the other three in this series. Each week students will be able to bring in the progress they are making on their Identities and Portfolios. Through sharing their progress the students will be able to learn and adapt their final product through feedback from the other students and the instructor. Cost: $59


Positive Parenting

Parents will learn how to use the basic features of positive parenting skills by developing a good relationship with their children and manage misbehavior by learning positive parenting strategies such as planning ahead, developing parenting routines, and utilizing behavioral charts. Cost: $80


NRA: Basic Pistol Shooting
Hours: 8

The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. Through this course, you will learn about pistol parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, pistol shooting fundamentals, and pistol shooting activities.  This course will be taught by a National Rifle Association Basic Pistol Instructor. If you are bringing your own pistol, you must provide your own factory ammunition.  Also bring safety glasses and hearing protection. For further questions, contact Lisa Smith at 493-7317. Cost: $85

NRA: Basic Shotgun Shooting

The NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting Course introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a shotgun safely. Through this course, you will learn the principal parts of a shotgun, action types and how they function, rules for safe gun handling, firing your first shots, a practical exercise, and shotgun shooting activities. This course will be taught by an NRA Shotgun Instructor. You must bring your own shotgun and have enough ammunition for 25-50 rounds.  Please bring safety glasses and hearing protection. Insanity Fitness

Come join us with this Insane workout! This course is designed to help you lose weight and to stay motivated working out along with your peers. Course includes plyometric drills along with strength, endurance, and core training moves. Pre-registration and payment is required 3 days prior to the beginning of class so do not wait! Family Stories Workshop

Every family has stories to tell, but many are lost before they’re recorded. In this workshop, students will receive guidance in how to write and structure these stories and their own. Through a balance of lecture, stimulating memory exercises, discussion, and class feedback they will be able to create a permanent record of these stories for posterity. Cost: $65


Creative Writing Seminar

This course is designed for the experienced as well as the inexperienced writer. The emphasis is on creativity, writing, and critique. Assignments are read anonymously and critiqued by class members and the instructor to work toward improved writing technique and communication skills. Tip sheets on the elements of writing are supplemented by exercises. All genres of writing are welcome. Revision and submission for publication and competition are encouraged. Cost: $65

New Horizons Band

If you are looking for a fun way to learn a musical instrument without the rigors of individual instruction, you might want to consider joining the New Horizons Band. The New Horizons Band is for adults, ages 50 and up, who wish to learn to play a band instrument for the first time, or relearn an instrument, the New Horizons band provides a relaxed, fun learning situation. The New Horizons Band provides adults with little or no musical experience the opportunity to play band music with others. The band meets two days a week. Instruments include flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and trombone, other instruments are considered upon request. Classical Music: A Primer

This course will explore the traditions of Western art music via the structure, style and composers of works to be performed at the upcoming PCC Symphony Orchestra concert. Course content will include listening, lecture, discussion, an introduction to score reading and conducting, and a hands-on introduction to orchestral instruments. Group Piano for Adults with Previous Experience

This course is a hands-on introduction to music. Students will come to appreciate all aspects of music through listening, responding, creating, and understanding music through their bodies, minds, and spirits. Emphasis will be on movement, singing, playing instruments, and reading music. Topics will include the elements of music, styles, multicultural aesthetics, improvisation, and composition. Cost: $49

People who sing together often seem utterly happy and engaged in life. Singing, Swinging Seniors is a fun-filled choir for adults, ages 50 and up. If you enjoy singing and socializing… this is the group for you! Come enjoy music from Gospel to Broadway show tunes and just about everything in between. Singing may offer benefits to deep and controlled breathing and focus on maintaining good use of the lungs, diaphragm and abdominal muscles. In addition, singing maintains good speech and diction. PCC Symphony Orchestra

This course provides an opportunity for those who play an orchestral instrument to gain experience by playing is an ensemble. Emphasis is placed on orchestral techniques and the study and performance of a variety of styles and periods or orchestral and string ensemble literature. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate skills needed to participate in ensemble playing leadership to performance. PREREQUISITE: Completion of high school orchestra or band program, or comparable private lesson experience. All other cases to be determined by audition.


Steel Drum Ensemble

This course is a performance based ensemble and students will learn to play the steel drum which is from the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. You will learn the history of and how to play authentic steel pan music as well as learning proper care and technique of steel pans. Basic music theory skills are recommended (notes and rhythms). Students will play out in the community on public performances throughout the semester. Cost: $99


Improving Your Church Choir
