Aviation Ground School for Pilots

This course is a study of aerospace history, weather, navigation, instruments, preflight planning, regulations, radio communications, and the aviation field and procedures necessary to become a safe pilot. Classes are oriented toward the latest material available from the Federal Aviation Agency and students are prepared to pass the written examination by the Government. This is a continuation of Computer Literacy Level 1. You will learn more in depth about Windows 7, web browsing, e-mail, and housekeeping. Internet and Email for Seniors with Windows 8 (BYOD)

This is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) class. This course is a great starting point for senior citizens who want to start using the internet. Students who take this course will be acquainted with the internet, learn to send and receive e-mails, learn how to contact other internet users, and learn how to protect your computer from viruses and spyware. Cost: $75

Personal Protection in the Home
Hours: 8

This course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense. Students should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition and will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate. Proof of shooting experience can be one of the following: NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or a NC CONCEALED CARRY PERMIT. The Basics of Writing a Book

You will learn about writing books from author Brandon Sneed, who, in addition to writing three books, also privately consults with moms, athletes, businessmen, and more, as a story-making mercenary for hire to help you turn your vision for a book into reality. Sneed has also written for national magazines such as ESPN The Magazine, GQ, the New York Times Mens Journal, and more. This seminar will benefit anyone looking to write a book of any kind, whether fiction, nonfiction, memoir, self-help, business, and more. It will also cover how to land an agent, how to pitch your books to publishers, how books are adapted into films, and what happens if your book gets optioned for a screenplay by a Hollywood screenwriter, as Sneed's has.  Cost: $15

Patriotic Porch Decor

Students will learn techniques for creating a door wreath using deco-mesh and other materials and will learn to properly plan and plant a patio planter for sun or shade. Emphasis will be placed design principles for both wreath and planters. Students will learn the difference between good and poor designs. Additional patriotic-themed decorating ideas will be provided. Cost: $35


Holiday Mesh Wreath Making

During this 4 week class, you will learn how to make a Deco Mesh wreath for each of the upcoming holidays from start to finish. This will include different craft supplies to create custom wreaths for Halloween, Fall/Thanksgiving, and Winter/Christmas. The wreaths are made from materials that make them safe for indoor or outdoor display. We will also discuss different techniques, as well as how to add ribbons, bows, embellishments, etc. to your project. Upon registration, a list of a few required items will be given to you to be brought to the first class. Cost: $40

American Sign Language

Students will learn how basic vocabulary, grammar rules, and conversational skills of American Sign Language. Some of the topics are: introducing oneself, leisure activities, living arrangements, and family just to name a few. Must have access to Internet. Cost: $79


Introduction to Sailing

Learn the history, terminology, theory and practice of the oldest application of ‘GREEN’ power—sailing the oceans ONLY using the wind! In 10 weeks we will cover the boat, the forces and the techniques of moving it under wind power. Along the way we will learn the language of sailing and have brief looks at the history of sailing, from Egyptian pharaohs through the greatest sailing navy ever assembled up to the present including a brief look at The America’s Cup-the oldest championship in ALL of sport. Our text, SAIL, was developed by the United States Power Squadrons, which is recognized as a top boating education organization in the country. Cost: $119 (Includes text)


Creating an Art Business

This class will focus on helping students define goals as professionals and working artists, while learning productive tactics to achieve those goals. The final goal will be to create a business focused artist/crafts person portfolio. Cost: $59


An Artistic Identity

This class will focus on helping students create an identity that can be used for professional marketing, work documentation and beginning the stages of marketing and branding and networking. The focus will be on exposing students to sources for business cards and other materials required for a professional identity. Cost: $59


Into the Real World

This course will focus on conducting public relations in the art world. Subjects covered will include: How to seek out gallery representation, setting up an exhibition or business expo, and creating "elevator" speeches. Cost: $59


Show and Glow
Hours: 16

This course will be a culmination of the other three in this series. Each week students will be able to bring in the progress they are making on their Identities and Portfolios. Through sharing their progress the students will be able to learn and adapt their final product through feedback from the other students and the instructor. Cost: $59


Learn to Shag

Come and learn the "Dance of the Carolinas." You will learn the basic steps of shag dancing. Students are recommended to wear hard sole shoes or you can dance in your socks. A dancing partner is suggested, but not required. Cost: $39

Positive Parenting

Parents will learn how to use the basic features of positive parenting skills by developing a good relationship with their children and manage misbehavior by learning positive parenting strategies such as planning ahead, developing parenting routines, and utilizing behavioral charts. Cost: $80


Family Life Design Part I

Students will come together and identify past and present experiences that have negatively and positively impacted their lives. They will receive information to apply to daily life skills that will assist with (building and/or rebuilding) stronger relationships within family. NRA: Basic Pistol Shooting

The NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a pistol safely. Through this course, you will learn about pistol parts and operation, ammunition, gun safety, pistol shooting fundamentals, and pistol shooting activities.  This course will be taught by a National Rifle Association Basic Pistol Instructor. If you are bringing your own pistol, you must provide your own factory ammunition.  Also bring safety glasses and hearing protection. For further questions, contact Lisa Webb at 493-7317. NRA: Basic Shotgun Shooting

The NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting Course introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a shotgun safely. Through this course, you will learn the principal parts of a shotgun, action types and how they function, rules for safe gun handling, firing your first shots, a practical exercise, and shotgun shooting activities. This course will be taught by an NRA Shotgun Instructor. You must bring your own shotgun and have enough ammunition for 25-50 rounds.  Please bring safety glasses and hearing protection. Insanity Fitness

Come join us with this Insane workout! This course is designed to help you lose weight and to stay motivated working out along with your peers. Course includes plyometric drills along with strength, endurance, and core training moves. Pre-registration and payment is required 3 days prior to the beginning of class so do not wait! In this course, you will learn how to maximize your savings by using coupons and other strategies to slash your spending. Mapping Your Retirement Journey: A Holistic Approach

Stage Fright: Performance Anxiety

Learn to overcome anxiety (a little nervousness or outright terror) when performing before an audience or in an audition. This course is for musicians, actors, dancers, and public speakers. Creative Writing Seminar

Classical Music: A Primer

This course will explore the traditions of Western art music via the structure, style and composers of works to be performed at the upcoming PCC Symphony Orchestra concert. Course content will include listening, lecture, discussion, an introduction to score reading and conducting, and a hands-on introduction to orchestral instruments. Exploring Music for Seniors

This course is a hands-on introduction to music. Students will come to appreciate all aspects of music through listening, responding, creating, and understanding music through their bodies, minds, and spirits. Emphasis will be on movement, singing, playing instruments, and reading music. Topics will include the elements of music, styles, multicultural aesthetics, improvisation, and composition. Cost: $49


The Celebration Singers

Love to sing? Celebration Singers is a fun and social group for adults! We sing for a variety of locations and activities in the community such as senior living centers, senior social clubs, concerts, celebrations, and community events. Come enjoy music from Gospel to Broadway showtunes, and just about everything in between! Group singing offers benefits such as deep and controlled breathing, focus on maintaining good use of your lungs, diaphragm, and abdominal muscles, and engaging in continued learning for your brain. Add music to your health! Attend as often as you can - we understand life is full of appointments and travel! Participants in the choir do not have to be expert musicians. PCC Symphony Orchestra

This course provides an opportunity for those who play an orchestral instrument to gain experience by playing is an ensemble. Emphasis is placed on orchestral techniques and the study and performance of a variety of styles and periods or orchestral and string ensemble literature. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate skills needed to participate in ensemble playing leadership to performance. PREREQUISITE: Completion of high school orchestra or band program, or comparable private lesson experience. All other cases to be determined by audition.


Steel Drum Ensemble

This course is a performance based ensemble and students will learn to play the steel drum which is from the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. You will learn the history of and how to play authentic steel pan music as well as learning proper care and technique of steel pans. Basic music theory skills are recommended (notes and rhythms).
