The Pitt Community College Greenhouse program offers one year of horticulture. The purpose of this program is to therapeutically develop improved work and social skills of individuals with special needs. These skills are necessary to prepare individuals for entry level employment. Students will be provided with as much hands-on experience as possible in a setting that is favorable to the student's personal growth.

Graduates of this program will have learned valuable job skills that will be helpful in any employment situation, but especially in a greenhouse setting. Under the supervision of experienced horticulturists, candidates can perform the tasks required of a greenhouse working, including grounds keeping, nursery working and landscaping. In the performance of these duties, the graduate should be able to use language that is appropriate to these occupations. The student should also be able to demonstrate an understanding of the proper use and care of the tools and equipment commonly used in this field of work.
